## Who It’s For

- **Media owners** – Control audience access per advertiser and reduce manual oversight
- **Advertisers** – See only approved, relevant segments during campaign setup
- **Agencies** – Continue using shared audience templates safely across clients

## When to Use It

Use this feature when you want to:

- Restrict custom audience segments to specific advertisers
- Prevent advertisers from using the wrong or unapproved segments
- Keep the targeting UI simple and brand-safe for self-serve users

## How It Works

1. The media owner assigns audience segment access at the advertiser level

2. An advertiser creates or edits a campaign in Console

3. Console automatically filters the Segments dropdown to show:
   - Advertiser-approved custom segments
   - All shared agency-template segments
   - Clear labels indicating whether the segment is specific to the advertiser

If no segments are assigned to the advertiser:

- Console shows an empty state: “No segments are currently available for this advertiser.”
- A short explanation clarifies that segment access is managed by the publisher

## How to Enable It

### Management UI

Enable segment access for an advertiser via the [Advertiser controls in the Management UI](https://dev.kevel.com/docs/advertisers#managing-advertiser-segment-access) or the [Create Advertiser Segment endpoint of the Management API](https://dev.kevel.com/reference/create-advertiser-segment).

### Console

Once saved and synced, segment access is enforced automatically in:

- **Campaign targeting → Segments**
- Advertisers can only select segments they’re allowed to use

## Notes

- Segment access is enforced via **Advertiser ID** using the Segment API
- Shared agency-template segments remain visible to all advertisers
- Segment permissions apply at the **campaign targeting** level
- Current model assumes template-based and advertiser-assigned segments reference the same underlying segment entity
